How are the NBA Player Rater scores calculated?

To calculate the ratings, we compare every player to the average statistical performance at each category. If a player’s stats are right at the average, his rating for that category is 0.00. The ratings therefore represent how much a player is above or below the average.

Positive ratings indicate a player is above average for a category whereas a negative rating means the player is below average. The ratings are then added together across categories to determine an Overall value for each player.
