How ECR™ Works
ECR™ represents the collective opinion of the experts we track. We generate a consensus cheat sheet by calculating how many Rank Points each player receives based on his ranked position on each expert’s cheat sheet. Each ranked position is worth a certain number of Rank Points – the better the rank, the higher the Rank Points. We add these Rank Points up for each player across all experts to determine the player’s consensus rank.
We don’t use an “average rank” because we believe this approach is flawed. Using an average requires assigning an arbitrary rank to unranked players, which skews the results. Rank Points provide a more accurate and fair method.
How Experts Are Selected (NFL)
Weeks 1–2
In the first two weeks, ECR is built from a mix of recent contributors and proven performers from the prior season:
- Top finishers in last year’s draft accuracy
- Top finishers in last year’s in-season accuracy
- Additional experts based on recency (most recent submissions)
Week 3 and Beyond
From Week 3 onward, accuracy becomes the main requirement, with recency serving as a secondary filter. Think of it as a Venn diagram: experts qualify if they are a top finisher in last year’s draft accuracy, last year’s in-season accuracy, or this year’s in-season accuracy — and they’ve submitted rankings recently (typically within the last 2–3 days).
This pool maxes out around 60 experts, but since many qualify in multiple accuracy groups, the actual number is usually closer to 50 by Sunday morning.
